  14. Richard Elliott, Frank Schmidt, Kim Clearkin and 40+ other squash players had a great Round Robin event at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores, CA U.S.A. Juniors, Women and Men, from age 9 to 60 “ish” showed off their love for the game and their support for Squash in the 2016 Olympics! It was quite a good turnout, considering the Club Championships were held just last weekend and this was a 3-day holiday weekend, but we’re all hooked on the sport…

  15. The Potomac School organized a small tournament with girls and boys draws. Due to our limited court space and time on court, the draws were smaller than they could have been. Apart from the tournament, there were clinics with Varsity team members, an exhibition between school number 1, Bryan Keating, and Tufts University number 1, Alex Gross, a fun raffle to raise money for the olympic effort, and some king of the court. About 50 kids showed up for the event, which is incredible because we only organized the event a week in advance of Squash 2016 Day. In addition, it is a holiday weekend in the US and many people are off on vacation. It was a great event and we have several pictures of hard fought matches. 19. World squash Day for 2016 was celebrated at the Kings County Squash Club in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada.

As far as I know, we were the only club in the province to hold a planned event to participate in the world wide effort to strengthen the 2016 Olympic bid. Thanks to everyone who came out. Everyone had a blast.

Doubles squash was definitely the highlight of the day, with everyone who participated wanting more and more. Many of us were new to doubles but quickly adapted our game to the new idea as we got used to playing with 4 players on a singles size court.

Squash for 2016 inclusion into the Olympics definitely has a stronger bid now after all the events that took place worldwide yesterday.

Keep up the good work everyone.

  20. Squash 2016 Day at Apawamis… it was incredible!

We had over two hundred pre-registered players and must have had 500+ folks wander in and out during the day.

Peter Briggs et al really know how to run a squash event! Nan O’Neill was incredible controlling the greeting desk all day with a total take that was well into the thousands.

Marie and Suzie were also do “desk duty” in between some fantastic play; Ted Murphy and TG Raubenheimer held up there end with more fantastic play; Peer was the grand benevolent supporter as he cheered energetically from the grandstands while recovering from surgery just days before; Diane Briggs and Dale Walker were constantly shooting their lens and then instantly posting them on the wide screem plasma monitor in the main lobby of the squash house; and I will not attempt to describe what Natalie did… not only her own performance, but her “attraction” to get John White, Jonathon Power, David Palmer and a host of other very entertaining PERFORMERS on the squash stage ! ! !

  25. "Grudge Cup" at Delhi

The organisers had minimum time to get this event organised. Against all expectations we had 74 players participating though a max of 50 had been planned. Such was the excitement!! Online registrations.....the first of its kind for a tournament in North India...proved very popular. 30 odd entries came through this route.

Squash 2016 t-shirts proved extremely popular. About 100 had been printed...these were distributed to all participants, admin staff, DDA officials and coaches. Fitness First delivered 70 bags with Bag, t shirts and a water bottle each along with a one day free pass for the gym. Some snaps above showcase the synergies, the energy and the spirit that were on display.

We sincerely hope such events showcase the popularity of squash and strengthen its bid for inclusion as an Olympic sport in 2016.

Ryan Cuskelly popped down, as did Rafael Alarcon.

These in addition to others like Graham Bassett, Yvain Badan (Apawamis pro and former Trinity player), Mike Ferreira (former Trinity player) and then the big guns, Jon Power, Johnny White.

It turned out that the tournament should have been titled "Last Person Standing" since a women, Siyoli Lusaseni, was crowned the Champion, after 5 hours of squash and 24 games with different squash enthusiasts.

Fishoek Squash Club also hosted a "Six minute" Tournament, where a player could find themselves playing against the current South African Male Champion, Steve Coppinger or the former South African Champion Rodney Durbach.

A wonderful picture was taken at the Cape Town V&A Waterfront with the backdrop of Table Mountain.

    World Squash Day in Mexico

Between the commemorative t-shirts, banners, cameras and festive ambiance, the abundance of enthusiasm and passion for squash was quite apparent as Mexican squash players joined in celebration of World Squash Day at several of Mexico City’s important squash clubs.

Such was the case at the Squash Inn club where owner Jose Luis Mendez organized the day’s events. Over 100 participants gathered at the club to either watch or compete in events which included a junior tournament, a battle of the sexes tournament and exhibition matches by some of Mexico’s best junior and master players.

To conclude the day’s events, Mexico’s own Samantha Teran (World #15 ranked WISPA player) played an exhibition match against the club’s top player, Gerardo De Paul. The event was covered by television, radio and the press.

The festivities continued at another of Mexico’s important squash clubs, Ciudad de Mexico. Owner Jose Perez Licea organized a “dual meet” which pitted the “legends” vs. the “up and coming”. The rosters included players such as Octavio Montero, Pepe Mandujano, Armando Zarazua, Eduardo Lopez, Juan Camacho, Miled Zarazua, Ricardo Lopez, Samantha Teran, Miguel Montero, Luis Quintal, Jonathan Ramos, and Marco Toriz.

Squash Delta was another club that hosted World Squash Day activities which included a junior tournament, exhibition matches, raffles and food. Owners Miriam and Ulises Marques promote a family environment at their club which was fitting for this special day and event that was covered by Mexico’s leading television station, Televisa.

The day’s events were concluded at the statue of the Angel of Independence in the center of the capital. Dozens gathered to join in the official photo for the “Squash for 2016” Olympics campaign. From there it was on to Element, a nightclub-bar owned by Samatha Teran’s family.

The partying and dancing went on into the wee hours of the morning for those who “boasted” of great physical conditioning – probably a result of all that high altitude training here – all for a good cause.

  32. The Czech Republic joined world wide Squash 2016 day with a lot of activities. Czech squash association (CASQ) organized a fundraising
    activity.

We produced T-shirts with Squash 2016 logo. Half of the price of the t-shirt will go to WSF. T-shirts are selling very well.

In fact during the tournaments and other activities on Saturday we sold out all t-shirts we produced so we had to make more so everyone
who wants can get his t-shirt. Every member was also asked directly by e-mail to support financially the Olympic bid. We would like to send the money we collect on June 10th. The other activity organized by CASQ includes a squash tournament for sports journalists.

Unfortunately the sports journalists are always very busy on weekends so we agreed with Czech republic´s Sports Journalists Club to play the
tournament in few weeks time during the weekday.

Our goal with this unofficial National squash championships for sports journalists is to
improve our relations with media so they can promote squash a bit more. Lot of clubs organized their activities as well. For example at Zvonarna in Ceske Budejovice local club players and coaches organized the day when everyone could come and try squash. They also played some exhibition matches and doubles where local national junior team member
Denisa Peleskova took part and they were able to attract a lot of new players especially kids as they targeted local schools.

The most interesting activity was probably the 12-hour night squash marathon organized by VŠ liga which is a club of university students squash players. Two teams of 15 players played each other from 22:00 on Friday till 10:00 on Saturday. Blue team beat Yellow team 106:88 in
    games and 1775:1600 in points.

  33. Thanks to James Poole for the brilliant idea of hiring a London bus to drive round the city to promote the Squash 2016 Bid.

Thanks also to everyone who came along to support the day, especially Danny Lee and his Surrey entourage!

Howard Harding produced a superb collection of photographs at a variety of locations, including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge, Buckingham Palace and St Paul's Cathedral, where we were joined by Paul Lynch of England Squash and Aussie squash fan Jeff O'Donnell from Sydney!

All in all a wonderful, soecial day. Wiuth so much energy and passion for the sport being shown all over the world, we hope the IOC take notice and give squash its rightful place in the 2016 Olympics.

Thanks to everybody who gave up their time to organise some brilliant events.

A BIG Well Done to everybody. You're special.

  35. Raivis Lucijanovs, Baltic Squash Institute, Riga, Latvia:
During the World Squash Day on May 23 in Riga, Latvia, Baltic Squash Institute, the first members only club in Latvia, hosted the 12-hour squash marathon as well as a sign-off of the Latvian Squash Memorandum was arranged. During the squash marathon, 40 people, aged from 6 through 46 and having played squash from a couple of times through 11 years, scored 2394 points altogether of which 1338 points were scored by the best of the two participating teams. During the 12-hour marathon, the two records were set to be challenged over the next World Squash Day: first, the tallest squash player reached 2.05 metres, second, during the most productive single game of squash, 75 points were reached by the winner. In addition, during the open-door day at the Baltic Squash Institute, the Latvian Squash Memorandum to support the squash bid for the 2016 Olympic Games was signed off. The Latvian Squash Federation presented a certificate to each supporter of the squash bid to acknowledge the invaluable effort to support the game of squash in the Olympics. Next year, we will look forward to arranging the 24-hour squash marathon with our closest neighbours from Lithuania and Estonia!

  36. World Squash Day cane to Xcel at Walton on Thames, Surrey, England on Sunday 24th May. It only happened to be the hottest day of the year coinciding with the school half-term break, the last day of the football premier league and the Bank holiday weekend! One by one my phone rang to let me down - broken hand, family celebration, BBQ, beach - "something" was coming up all over the place. I don't give up, I turn the phone off! Those who love the game will turn up! And they did and we had a brilliant time. 5 hours of hot sweaty squash and people who have caught the bug and are coming back for more and more! The game was the winner!

I owe thanks to brilliant corporations who sponsored the goody-bags and provide free drinks. Big thanks to all the lovers of the game who realy want to see squash in the Olympics.

The best news is that we can do it again and make it bigger and better and get even more players in to the game. Raise the profile and squash is on to a winner. We plan to have another squash day before the end of the year where no one will have an excuse to opt out! Welcome all and well done to all the fellow players and organisers around the world!

  39. Fish Hoek Squash Club in South Africa used World Squash Day to launch a new squash coaching book, titled SQUASH with the Pros... (see http://www.withthepros.co.za/).

The event drew a crowd of enthusiastic amateurs, regular league players and a few professionals. The organisers arranged a demonstration match between two top women players, Siyoli Waters and Zoe Durbach.

Siyoli is currently ranked no. 6 in South Africa, and Zoe has represented South Africa's Western Province team, as well as the England Masters team. The game between the two women was a brilliant display of women's squash and one that would inspire women and girls of all ages.

    Siyoli won 11-7

Siyoli then played two games against Rodney Durbach South African men's no. 4, former no. 1 and professional coach, Rodney Durbach v Siyoli Waters: game 1 - Siyoli won 13-11; game 2 - Rodney won 11-8.
