  13. We have commissioned a fundraising campaign where individuals sign a poster (a hybrid of the Olympic Pledge) and donate - aimed to engage the individual player. Some 150 posters have been sent out to date for State Associations to Centres & Clubs.

We have asked the member states to promote this and look at making donations themselves.

We held an Auction at the Squash Australia Hall of Fame Dinner.

To date some $12000 - $13000 has been committed. We are hopeful this will grow.

Additionally, we are requesting Centres to embrace Squash 2016 day for general promotion of the project.

  16. WSF urged to allow world events in Pakistan Squash Federation

ISLAMABAD: As the squash world joins hands on May 23 in a bid to include the game in the 2016 Olympic Games, the World Squash Federation (WSF) is still undecided on organizing the international tournaments in Pakistan.

The world squash day is being re-branded as “Squash 2016 Day” and the national federations all over the globe have been asked to celebrate the occasion and organize the programmes to highlight the day.

At one hand the world body is trying to make efforts to take the game to Olympics, on the other all efforts on the part of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) to restart the international activities in the country are being given cold shoulder.

Squash is being played in 175 countries with more than 20 million players are involved in the game. Pakistan is one of the leading countries that not only has produced world champions but also played an active role to bring the game to Olympic fold.

However, the double standards being adopted by the WSF is discouraging all the efforts to promote the game in Pakistan – the country of squash lovers.

It has been learnt that the PSF is in constant touch with the world body to allow and support them to host the international tournaments in Pakistan. The WSF has so far shown cold shoulder and is reluctant to support Pakistan mainly because of what they say unfavourable law and order situation in the country.

“We are in constant touch with WSF and making all out efforts to bring the international tournaments back to Pakistan. However, so the international body is reluctant to support us on that front, “ and official of the PSF when contacted said.

The spring season and early summer has always been a busy time for the game activities. Host of the players around the world usually turn up to Pakistan to participate in the events like the Chief of the Army Staff Squash Championship and other international circuit tournaments.

But this year the activities have yet to get a take off in Pakistan – courtesy to the terrorists attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore.

Unlike cricket, squash is not a team game and as such, the WSF could play a role in bringing the international events back to Pakistan before making endeavours to take it to the Olympics. The countries that have produced champions are being left out of the mainstream. First the WSF and Professional Squash Association (PSA) should extend their support to Pakistan before seeking new horizons for the game.

  46. Free Squash in Vienna

McWIL Courtwall did organise and financial support the World Squash Day 2009 in Vienna, Austria in cooperation with the Austrian squash federation, and the Vienna squash association.

The deal is that on May 23rd everyone can play for free on all existing squash courts in the city of Vienna (just one strictly member club had to refuse for public, but they offer to their members to play without charge on this day).

The local Vienna association will send in each participating club a squash trainer or league player, to be available for free giving tips to squash players for game imporvment, or first instructions to new players.

This costs are taken over from the Austrian squash federation !

We involved the City of Vienna sport department for PR on all related Websites and mailing list, as well the most popular Radio Station Radio Wien will bring the whole week before announcements for free, and send on "The DAY" reporters to two clubs for live broadcasts

We have printed posters, which will be sent out to schools, universities, and sport clubs all over the city, and we have created a website
www.squashday.at, which we have listed on many websites targeting the squash player group: like university sports, schools, youth sport websites, etc,.....

Here in Bloemfontein, South Africa we'll have squash from 7am to 7pm non-stop! There will be singles, doubles and "numbers" played at the same venue in different time slots throughout the day. We have only one dress code; and that's "squash shoes compulsory" but the rest is "optional" It would be interseting to see what creativity comes forward here? Afterwards we'll have a braai to recover!
